EVENT PROFESSIONALS AGREE:

"Don't use your hazard lights on events sites.
Your indicators are much more useful."

Vehicles are visible enough to drive on our streets. They do not need orange flashing lights to make people see them. The same goes for event sites. If you think your vehicle is presenting a visibility hazard while you are driving near pedestrians, slow down, stay alert, use headlights, fit a beacon
or have someone walk in front of you waving a red flag.

A POINTLESS HABIT

In 2012 the Hazards Off campaign managed to get this pointless habit stopped on all the UK's major festival sites. This was achieved by the wholehearted and enthusiastic support of festival and event organisers and suppliers [LINK], especially the security companies staffing the gates, event safety advisors and major event contractors.

But some people have not caught up and hazard lights are still causing confusion and disabling indicators at events up and down the country. With the best of intentions, small event organisers and drivers think it is the right thing to do.

The Highway Code [LINK] is clear that hazard lights are only to be used on stationery vehicles causing a hazard.

The Health and Safety Executive [LINK] also endorse the campaign:

DO SOMETHING

Adopt the policy at your events.

Tell your event staff, especially at the gates.
